Experienced Cardiologists Serving Meridian & Surrounding Areas
Women's Heart Health
Many of the most well-known signs of heart disease and heart attacks are actually more common for men than they are for women. Just like men, heart disease is the leading cause of death for women worldwide. It’s important to familiarize yourself with the basics of women’s heart health so that you can take the appropriate action when a heart attack or stroke occurs.

At Anderson Regional Heart Center, we have a dedicated team of cardiologists who have treated numerous women diagnosed with heart conditions. Our team can help you learn more about heart health and provide the treatment you need should a serious cardiac event occur.

Heart Attack Warning Signs for Women
Know Your Risk Factors

There are some commonalities between heart attack signs for men and women. For example, chest pain is the most common symptom for both sexes. However, women are also more likely to experience some of the accompanying symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, back pain, or jaw pain. A combination of these symptoms warrants concern, and you should schedule an appointment with a cardiologist as soon as possible.

Other signs of a heart attack for women include:

  • Shortness of breath (with or without chest pain)
  • Dizziness, nausea, vomiting
  • Sudden, unexplained fatigue or weakness
  • Pain in the arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach
  • A sudden, cold sweat
  • Indigestion

Heart disease is a silent killer, which is why it is the most common cause of death worldwide. The symptoms of heart disease do not usually appear until a serious cardiac event occurs. Thankfully, there are things you can do to remain aware of your risk of heart disease. Track your blood pressure and cholesterol, monitor your stress levels, and drink alcohol in moderation. All of these play a role in your risk for heart disease.

You are also at a higher risk of heart disease if you smoke, are obese, or have a family history of heart disease. Make sure you discuss all of your risk factors with your doctor so that you can maintain a heart healthy lifestyle to prevent heart attack and stroke.
